How to build your first party in a mobile RPG

July 10, 2026 · Markus Feldmann

Most mobile RPGs let you get away with a lazy party for the first few hours, and then a boss quietly punishes you for it. The fix is boring but reliable: cover your roles before you chase your favorites.

You want someone who takes hits, someone who deals steady damage, and someone who keeps the team standing. Once those three exist, everything else is flavor. I usually leave one flexible slot for whatever character I'm enjoying, even if they're not optimal.

Don't hoard upgrade materials. New players sit on resources 'for later' and stay underleveled. Spend on your core three and you'll feel the difference immediately, especially in games with stamina-based combat where every turn counts.

Finally, learn the respec system early. Most good RPGs let you rebuild characters cheaply, which means you should experiment instead of playing it safe. The best builds I've run all started as mistakes I decided to keep.
